Microdermabrasion refers to an aesthetic service used for skin resurfacing and treating a range of skin abnormalities by progressively gently abrading the surface of the skin. Microdermabrasion can erase some of the visible signs of aging, and can be used successfully on all skin types and colors. Developed in Italy, microdermabrasion was used in Europe for about ten years before it made its way to the United States. In 1997, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave its approval for this revolutionary skin treatment!
The system employs a stream of fine particles under high pressure through a vacuum system. These fine particles, also known as crystals, propel across the tissue at a high rate of speed causing the surface skin to be exfoliated. During treatment, these exfoliated dead skin cells are immediately vacuumed into a “used crystal’ container. Our Dermaglide® unit uses medical grade baking soda crystals rather than Aluminum oxide crystals. Baking soda crystals are not only gentler to the skin, but also do not carry the health risks that Aluminum oxide crystals may carry. Treatments are primarily performed on the face, but can also be performed on the neck and hands.
The procedure takes about 20 minutes, and causes NO PAIN and NO DOWNTIME! Microdermabrasion is often referred to as the “True Lunchtime Peel” because of the short amount of time required for treatment and the lack of recovery time. Repeated treatments (3, 6, or 10) yield the best results, yet a one-time treatment can provide immediate gratification! Microdermabrasion has been demonstrated to improve fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, large pores, skin discoloration, and to enhance overall skin texture, fullness, and tone. This procedure is ideal for helping to achieve and maintain a more youthful appearance and a healthy skin “glow”!
